A bit of berlin...

In January me and the misses went to Berlin for a little trip, this resulted in a couple of down to earth restaurant visits.

Besides from the many many sights there is also a crazy amount of restaurants, bars and so on. There is something for every personality, taste, ethnic background, hell even sexual preference i imagine. They mix everything together, and it seems like nothing is too wacky or out there in Berlin. This of course is very likable.

Anyway here is a bit of what we ate and where we found it ish:).

Transit restaurant.
http://www.transit-restaurants.com
Mixing together thai and indonesian flared cousine, this is an awesome place to eat, right up my alley.
Loud, bustling, fast and vibrant, and as it turns out very popular (we went two days in a row, and we managed to get a sunday evening table)
I learned about this place, from Sebastian founder of http://www.chefs-talk.com, and a local.
The concept is loads of small bowls at 3 euros each, rice 1 euro and then some bigger dishes for round 7 euros, so its very social.
Here's what we ate, pictures aren't too good, but the light made it very hard.

Thai squid, indonesian fresh rools, fried spareribs.

How you order

Roasted pork, sweet and sour sauce.

5 spice duck, plum sauce.

Curry chicken

The bill, as you see very cheap, and we were pretty full.

Next up, Lebanese food.
Recommended by a dear friend of mine, this place is bloody good, value for money, and good quality.
Go for the platter, you get a bit of everything they have to offer, and you pay 20 euros.
This was my second encounter with lebanese food, and definitely the best (granted, my first was is Bangkok, and why is a Danish cook, eating lebanese in a melting pot of lovely asian food in the first place...... PEER PRESSURE).
Anyway.

Fried cheese (the lovely chevy stuff) hummus, shawarma, yogurt dip, spinach roles, falafel, you name it, it was there.
Name and address, go there, would be perfect if your hung over.

"Kartoffel kiste" was actually our first Berlin food, and we had to have some traditional fare, and let's declare this, the Germans know how to make a person full.
Ordering both grilled pork knuckles with potato dumpling gravy and sourcrout (fermented german cabbage), aaaaand pork neck, with potatoes, gravy and creamed cabbage almost took our heads off, and we had to leave some on the plate (yes very shameful, I'm not living up to my family name with that one) but it was very lovely, hearty and as the picture probably shows, it made me wanna take the biggest nap ever.

To sum up, if you can go to Berlin, go there, if not for the sights (that seems to be endless) and the people (who by the way are pretty friendly), then for the variety of food, they also have a pretty big michelin scene there.
